High-altitude chili peppers promote rural revitalization

In recent years, relying on local advantageous resources, Baiyunshan Village of Baojing County has developed the chili pepper industry. Guided by cooperatives and large growers, the village has achieved industrialization and large-scale development of chili peppers, and has taken a new path for rural revitalization.

Baiyunshan Village is located in the hinterland of Baiyun Mountain, a national nature reserve, with an average altitude of 900 meters. The mountain has abundant ecological resources and a large temperature difference between day and night, making it suitable for growing chili peppers.

To meet market demand, Baiyunshan Village has introduced Longfula chili pepper, a high-quality variety from other places. Villagers planted a total of over 400 mu (about 26.67 hectares) of quality high-altitude chili peppers.

At present, chili peppers have entered the harvest period. Due to good varieties of chilies and large market demand, Yanjiao ecological vegetable planting professional cooperative has reached cooperation with Changsha merchants. Chili peppers are mainly sold to Changsha City.

Chili pepper planting has high output value, and low requirements for laborers. About 70-year-old man can also participate. During the three months of the chili pepper planting period, it can provide job opportunities for 80 villagers, with a fixed salary of 100 yuan per day. During the harvest period of chili peppers, the villagers’ monthly income can increase by about 3,000 yuan per person.

The per unit yield of chili peppers planted in Baiyunshan Village this year can reach more than 2,000 kg per mu (about 0.067 hectares). Next, the village will further expand the pepper planting area, strengthen the chili pepper industry, drive more villagers to increase income, and help rural revitalization.
