Huanggong peppers grown in high mountain areas have thinner yellow skin, and are plumper, sweeter, spicier and crisper.
At present, more than 1,000 kilograms of Huanggong peppers can be harvested per day at the base, with an output value of over 400,000 yuan.
“It is the first time that we have planted Huanggong peppers this year, with a yield of about 1,500 kilograms per mu (about 0.067 hectares). Our alpine Huanggong peppers with a beautiful shape and bright color are sold well in Changsha,” said Yang Xiufeng, head of the planting cooperative.
“During the four months from transplanting to cultivation and harvesting, there is work to do every day. I can earn 90 yuan per day, which is very good for me,” said a 72-year-old villager from Xiaoxi Village.
The base has now planted over 500 mu (about 33.33 hectares) of high-altitude vegetables, including more than 300 mu (about 20 hectares) of Jichang peppers, Zhangshugang peppers, facing heaven peppers, and Huanggong peppers.
